Region: Rioja Winery: Bodegas Bilbaínas
Established in 1901, Bodegas Bilbaínas is one of the oldest estates in Rioja and the largest vineyard holding in the top quality district of Rioja Alta.
Bodegas Bilbaínas is also one of ten historic Rioja wineries and has played a major role in the development of the region.
Grupo Codorníu acquired Bodegas Bilbaínas in 1997 and has since invested €13 million in the vineyards and winery.
Over the last few years the winery has invested in an extensive programme of viticultural and oenological innovation. The vineyards are managed using sustainable agricultural practices with several of the estate’s vineyards being in the process of gaining organic status.
Zaco derives its name from one of the oldest vineyards on the Bodegas Bilbaínas estate. The wines obtained from this estate vineyard have always formed part of the Reserva and Grand Reserva wines and are of exceptional intenisty and concentration. An expression of Tempranillo with its own distinctive personality and unmistakeable varietal traits.
The vinification of Zaco is based on one single principle: The quest for fruitiness and freshness.
Intense, picota cherry colour with violet hues. A bouquet of wild flowers such as myrtle and violets. Notes of ripe red fruits are released on swirling the glass. Fresh and intense. The mouthfeel has a great deal of body, generous and structured with rounded tannins. An abundance of red fruits burst onto the palate and blend perfectly with subtle toasty notes from the barrel.
Drink it as a pairing with tapas, pasta dishes, young cheeses, chicken, grilled vegetables and BBQ's.
Vina Pomal embodies the best winemaking tradition of the Upper Rioja. Backed by a hundred years of history in premium winemaking and longstanding prestige together with the unbeatable location of the winery's unique vineyard inside the Haro municipality.
A garnet-cherry colour of medium intensity. Russet hues. Elegant and intense nose. Hints of red fruits and notes of liquorice along with aromas from maturing and aging: spices, tobacco leaf and vanilla.
Supple, rounded and balanced mouthfeel. A wine which reveals it Rioja Alta origin with a blend of varietals that gives it the characteristic balance and fresh mouthfeel of wines coming from this region.
A perfect pairing with vegetable dishes as well as bean stews. It also matches well with rice dishes with meat or vegetables, moderately strong cheeses, duck and oliy fish.
