Meet the Maker - Nicolò Luxardo, Export Director, Luxardo

Few names in the world of spirits carry the heritage and prestige of Luxardo. Founded in 1821, Nicolo Luxardo has over 200 years of legacy in his hands. He is expertly shaping the future of Luxardo as their Export Director, ensuring the brand is recognised globally.

What factors have ensured Luxardo’s success over the past two centuries?

The key has been staying true to who we are while continuously adapting to changing times. Luxardo has always been family owned and run, and that long term vision allows us to focus on quality, consistency, and reputation rather than short term trends. We’ve also never stopped investing in our products, our people, and our relationships with customers around the world.

What does a typical day involve?

I work in the export department, so a typical day can involve speaking with distributors and customers from different markets, reviewing sales performance, discussing new opportunities, and supporting international growth. I spend a lot of time travelling to visit our partners around the world or hosting customers and distributors here in Italy.

Which is your favourite Luxardo product and why?

Without a doubt, Luxardo Maraschino Originale. It represents our history, heritage, and identity. The recipe dates back over 200 years and remains unchanged today. There is something special about a product that has remained true to its origins for over two centuries. It is also incredibly versatile and an essential ingredient in some of the world's most iconic cocktails.

Interesting fact about the Luxardo brand?

One thing that stands out is the resilience of the family. After more than a century of  success in Zara, they lost everything during World War II. The original distillery was destroyed, most family members perished during the conflict, and the survivors were forced to leave their homeland and start over in Italy. Despite these challenges, Giorgio Luxardo and my young grandfather Nicolò, rebuilt the company from scratch.  The fact that the business survived and continues to be led by the same family over 200 years later is  something I find truly extraordinary.

What are you most looking forward to for the future of the Luxardo brand?
My hope is that Luxardo continues to thrive for another 200 years and beyond. As a family business, our responsibility is to pass the company on to the next generation in even better shape than we received it. Seeing the brand grow globally while remaining faithful to its heritage is what excites me most.

Your favourite Luxardo memory?
Some of my favourite memories are from spending time at the distillery during my summer vacations when I was a kid. Being around the production facilities, the warehouses, and the people who worked there made the company feel like an extension of the family. Those experiences helped shape my connection to the business.
