Meet Timothy Johnston - Assistant Trading Manager for Beers & RTD’s

Timothy joined the Drinks Inc. AFT team 2 years ago as part of the reorder team, before moving to the BWS trading team earlier this year.

How long have you worked for Drinks Inc. AFT? 

I have been part of the Drinks Inc. AFT team for the past 2 years, initially working as part of the re-order team, before moving to the Beer, Wine & Spirits Trading Team at the start of May this year. I have had a great time working with the Drinks Inc. AFT team and enjoyed working collaboratively with various departments to achieve shared goals. My time with the re-order team afforded me the opportunity to learn a great deal about the drinks industry, both from a supplier and customer perspective, which has prepared me for the challenge of my new role.

What does your role involve and who do you work closely with? 

As Assistant Trading Manager for Beer and RTD’s, my day-to-day duties vary. They involve liaising with suppliers, analysing trends and launching new products, maintaining costs and margin, and developing and reviewing category plans. All of this is underpinned by working closely with our marketing department, pricing and sales teams, to ensure that our range and offer stand out in the market - and meets the needs of our customers and consumers.  It is a fast paced, engaging role, one that I am looking forward to taking on and developing in.

How long have you worked in the drinks industry?

I have worked full time in the drinks industry for the last four years and have previous experience working in off-licences during my university days. Gaining hands on experience in the off trade ignited my interest in the industry, in particular the craft beer category, and gave me valuable insight into what customers truly expect from Beers, Wines and Spirits.

What do you like to do in your spare time?   

I am a member of my local running club and enjoy taking part in local races around the country. At the weekend I enjoy taking part in the local parkrun with my family, pushing my 1-year-old daughter around in her trike!

When the opportunity arises, I enjoy a nice cool bottle of Peroni!
